THE WORK

Sam (they/them) works with individuals and couples in relational and collaborative ways. They specialize in treating trauma, depression, and anxiety and its impact on patients' relationships, capacity for intimacy, careers, and self-concept. Sam finds working with artists, academics and intellectuals, innovators working in Tech, leaders in the public service sector (politics, nonprofits) and the entertainment industry, LGBTQAI folks, non-monogamous individuals/couples, and people with alternative spiritual practices deeply fulfilling and offers all of their patients a judgment-free environment within which to connect. Their work is psychodynamic and attachment-focused and rooted in the belief that feeling truly seen and heard holds the radical potential for healing.

SEX AND INTIMACY INITIATIVE

Sam’s Sex and Intimacy initiative centers around working with individuals and couples who experience discord in their sex lives and/or intimate partnerships. Bringing decades of experience as a Sex Educator to therapy work, Sam’s intention with this initiative is to assist their patients and/or the partners of their patients in dismantling barriers to emotional intimacy and sexual fulfillment that arise from themes such as power, control, and consent; sexual fantasy vs. the realities of sexual intimacy; vulnerability, loss of control, and fear; the neurobiological and hormonal variations that can affect sexuality. These various themes are just some of the issues that can impact patients’ emotional landscapes and the contours of their desires causing frustration or pain for them, individually, or in their partnerships. Sam believes that their particular education, experience, and skill set offers ample room within which to work on and heal the vast array of these particularly potent issues. Sam brings extensive knowledge and tremendous compassion to this work, offering an affirming space for everyone to explore their innermost thoughts and feelings. Their patients emerge with increased self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and practical tools useful for engaging in fulfilling sexual and romantic partnerships. Sam is a sex-positive, LGBTQ-affirming, kink-affirming, sex-work-affirming, poly-affirming practitioner.

FEES

Sam's fees are standard for New York City. Limited sliding scale slots are offered: rates are determined by the financial situation of the patient, time of appointment, and availability.

Sam is not in-network with any insurance provider and can be seen as an out-of-network provider for those with out-of-network benefits.  This means you will pay Sam directly and request reimbursement from your insurance company. Sam will provide you with monthly invoices needed to do this. Each insurance plan has different policies for reimbursement and you are encouraged to find out what your plan offers before the initial meeting.
